The International Costa Maya Festival 2016 has been cancelled due to Hurricane Earl. Below is the notice from the organizers dated Thursday, August 4, 2016:

The International Costa Maya Festival Committee hereby informs the general public that due to the damages caused by Hurricane Earl, the Costa Maya Festival events previously scheduled for this weekend, have been cancelled. Based on the current conditions across the country of Belize and considering that Belizean families are now forced to address their personal matters with urgency, the festival cannot be entertained this weekend. As a result the pageant delegates will leave Belize tomorrow to head back home and the Festival Committee has informed the international artists to hold off in travel due to the current conditions in Belize. The Costa Maya Festival Committee regrets the inconvenience caused by this situation but must be cognizant of the situation faced by Belizeans following the damages caused by hurricane Earl.

The International Costa Maya Festival 2016 will be held in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye this coming weekend August 4-6.

The Costa Maya Festival is Belize’s biggest festival, with visitors from around the world. This year is the 25th annual event. Local and international artists, and beauty queens from throughout the Mundo Maya come together for a celebratory weekend of dance, music, pageants, food and drink. Local and international visitors will enjoy a world-class event in la isla bonita. The event kicks off on Thursday, August 4 with La Reina de la Costa Maya Pageant, with participation from all of Central America: Belize, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. On Friday, August 5, Belize will be host to the Caribbean queen of soca Alison Hinds, and on Saturday, August 6, the ever so popular Super Lamas. Many local and international bands will be performing. The pageant and concerts will be held at the Louis Sylvester Sporting Complex.
